Doggy bucket list

Because dogs are part of the family and deserve to be spoiled too. We have created a bucket list of experiences we think should be enjoyed with your four-legged friends…

…Life is short and even shorter for doggies so why not see how many experiences you and your pooches can tick off this bucket list:

1. Eat ice cream with your dog

Hot off the press – John’s deli in Instow have just introduced a doggy friendly ice-cream called “scoops” that is lactose free and sugar free and dogs love it. It is sold exclusively from their new beach deli on Instow sea front. It also sells a mean local ice-cream for the parents too!

2. Play hide and seek:

Our private eight acre woodland is the perfect spot for a game of hide and seek and dogs, children and grown-ups alike love it. There are loads of great hiding places in the woods and from experience there is lots of joy and laughter to be had all around.

3. Learn a new trick:

New for 2019 we will be introducing some simple agility equipment (jumps, tunnel, weaves), so that you and your dogs can give agility a go while staying here at Woodland Cottages. Learning a new trick can help to stimulate your dogs as well as help build on the bond between owner and dog.

4. Go to the beach:

Whether it’s to go for a long walk, a splash in the sea or to run up and down the sand dunes. A good dose of vitamin sea is good for everyone. Make some memories that will last a lifetime.

5. Go canoeing with your dog:

Bude canoe experience is an award winning guided tour and welcomes dogs via prior arrangement. Exploring the Bude canal via boat may be a new experience for both you and your dogs. Canoeing is very relaxing and a lovely way to explore new places.

6. Have a meal out together:

Your on holiday so why not splash out on a meal with your dogs. Pig on the hill, in Westward Ho! does amazing food and even has a doggy menu so that your furry pals aren’t left out.

7. Have a photo-shoot with your dogs:

Whether it’s done professionally or by a friend, having a photo-shoot with your dogs is great fun. You can get creative with props and toys and end up with some fantastic shots that can be hung on a wall and treasured forever. We are not professional photographers but we are always happy to take some snaps of your doggy families while you are on holiday with us.

8. Go cycling with your dogs:

We are really lucky to have the Tarka Trail right on our doorstep, there are some beautiful cycle rides alongside the Torridge/Taw estuary.  There are some fantastic dog friendly cafes on route to stop and have a break. Many of the cycle hire shops along the line have dog trailers.

9. Play fetch in a field:

Dogs love it when you play with them especially in the great outdoors. Our enclosed exercise paddock is the perfect place to enjoy games of fetch and tug-of-war with your dogs.

10. Take a hike:

We all take our dogs for short walks, but when was the last time you went on an all day hike? Going for a longer adventure is great for your dogs well-being and it’s good for them to explore new places and smells. We have walking books and OS maps to help our guests both human and canine get out there and explore the great outdoors together.

We hope this list inspires you to make the most of the time you have with your furry friends.  We also hope that both humans and dogs get lots of fun, fulfillment and enjoyment from these doggy experiences.
