Beautiful & local beaches

Our self-catering cottages are ideally situated to explore North Devon and its many beautiful beaches. Northam Burrows, Westward Ho! and Instow are just a 15 minute drive from Woodland Cottages. If you fancy a change from being in the heart of the countryside, you and your dogs can head to the stunning coastline which is just a short drive away.

Surfing & coastal views

Saunton Sands Beach

Three and a half miles long, there is plenty of space here for you and your dogs to stretch their legs.  Saunton is a year round dog friendly beach, backed by sand dunes and with the Taw/Torridge estuary to the South it is a lovely spot. With a cafe, shop and toilets it has all the facilities you may need.

Westward Ho! Beach

With pubs, cafes and shops, Westward Ho! beach is the perfect place to go if you want amenities nearby.  Many of the pubs and cafes in Westward Ho! are dog friendly so your four-legged friends can join you too.

For swimming & surfing

Northam Burrows Beach

Northam Burrows is a great place to go if you want to escape the crowds.  The vast sandy expanse of Northam means there is more than enough space for a relaxing and peaceful stroll with your pooches. It is also dog friendly year round so no need to worry about restrictions here.

Crow Point Beach

Crow point is another quieter spot, where dogs are welcome throughout the year. There are fantastic views across the Taw/Torridge estuary looking over the water towards Appledore and Instow.

Instow Beach

Instow beach is the closest beach to Woodland Cottages. Tucked in behind Appledore is it often a bit more sheltered than other beaches so is great on a windy day. With the promenade running behind and a gentle ramp leading to the beach, it is very accessible. There are also some brilliant dog friendly cafes and pubs in Instow.

A nearby town

Croyde Beach

Croyde beach is a little bit smaller than some of the other beaches but nonetheless beautiful. The small town of Croyde lies behind the sand dunes and there are a number of footpaths that lead from the beach and into Croyde.

Putsborough Beach

Another beach with miles of golden sand, this unspoilt stretch of coastline is truly stunning. A relaxing day out at this beach may be just what your mind, body and soul are in need of.

Woolacombe Beach

Woolacombe is an award winning beach and it is easy to see why. This beach is a firm family favourite and it's dog friendly too. This beach has something for everyone with plenty of amenities to ensure the whole family is happy.

Rockham Beach

A short walk from the village of Mortehoe this beach is a hidden gem. Access is via some steep steps but it is well worth the effort. This secluded and sheltered cove has some fantastic rockpools and is a lovely swimming spot for dogs and humans alike.
