Dog friendly attractions in North Devon
Here at Woodland Cottages we are so lucky not only to be surrounded by such amazing countryside and coastline but North Devon also has loads of fantastic dog friendly attractions. From gardens to family friendly activities, you won’t be short of things to do with your dogs in tow. Woodland Cottages is the perfect base for experiencing some of these amazing attractions…
To give you a flavour of whats on offer here are a few of our favourites:
Broomhill Sculpture Gardens:
At Broomhill there is loads to see with hundreds of sculptures spread across their 10-acre site. With winding and interconnecting paths you will find something new and interesting to see around each corner. For lunch they offer a selection of tapas dishes which taste delicious. Dogs are welcome on leads.
Clovelly:
Visiting this ancient fishing village is like taking a step back in time. The steep cobbled street leads down through the fishermans cottages to the pretty harbour at the bottom. With no cars in the village traditionally donkeys and sledges have been used to transport goods in and out. Dogs are welcome on leads and in the visitor centre café. Doggy ice cream is also available from the visitor centre – it comes highly recommended by Diego.
Quince Honey Farm:
Is a working honey farm and with tours, honey tasting and other activities, there is plenty to do. There are beautiful nectar gardens which have been planted and landscaped with bees in mind. It’s the perfect place to learn more about these fascinating insects. Dogs are welcome on leads everywhere except the children’s play areas.
Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway:
This Cliff railway opened in 1890 and connects the picturesque towns of Lynton and Lynmouth. With a 500ft difference in height between Lynton which is perched at the top of the cliffs and Lynmouth which is situated at the bottom, its the best way to travel between the two. The cliff railway is the highest and steepest railway that is still totally water powered in the world. Dogs are welcome on a lead and must stay inside the carriage. There is a small charge for dogs.
Borough farm sheepdog and falconry display:
During the summer months on Wednesday evenings Borough farm near Woolacombe run sheepdog and falconry displays. The displays last for an hour and a half and are a lovely opportunity to see the working dogs do what they do best and to see some amazing birds of prey on the wing. Well behaved dogs are welcome on leads.
